There are many species of wood boring beetles that attack wood and cause massive devastation to wood floors, furniture, beams and other wooden structures. The beetles lay their eggs into gaps in the wood which will hatch larvae who burrow deep into the wood creating a maze of tunnels weakening the woods integrity. This will eventually lead to total failure of the structure.

      • What to look for:
        • Holes in wood and timber - The larvae will eventually bore to the surface of the wood to pupate and come up in their adult form. This will leave a clean looking round or oval hole. They may also tunnel sideways near the surface of the wood which will eventually leave a small trench or furrow.
        • Dust - Dust expelled from tunneling will usually collect under the infested wood.
        • Feeble floorboards - After years of infestation the wood will become soft and weaken considerably. This will lead to crumbling and disintegration.
        • Beetle larvae - white coloured larvae which look like worms.
